My parents both grew up in the same city in Cambodia, but
they didn’t meet each other until my mom was 19 and my dad was 29. The first time
he set eyes on her, he didn’t stop pursuing her. He’d show up at the movie
theater that she and her friends were at and sit next to her. He’d come by on
his motorcycle to her up from work. They got married soon after, survived a
war, became refugees, had four kids, and moved to the U.S. to Wisconsin and
California, where they have been married for 40 years.
