My dad caught her in our backyard while she was snacking
on some red chili peppers. She put up a fight. She was gorgeous with the
softest golden feathers and blushed bright red circles on her cheeks. We’d let
her out of her cage and she’d walk around the house, learning the layout of our
house. She’d look for my mom and preen her hair whenever she was napping on the
couch. She’d chirp loudly whenever she
heard our cars drive by – memorizing the sound of our engines. She’d bow her
head down for us to massage her neck feathers.
